Lodi Groups Come Together For Special-Needs Adults

LODI, N.J. — Officials and volunteers from throughout Lodi joined forces to create a memorable Friday night for special-needs adults.

The Lodi Recreation Department, Boys and Girls Club of Lodi/Hackensack and Felician University 21 and Over Program partnered for a Valentine's Day dance.

Felician 21 and Over Program Director Dana Regan said Friday's dance will be one of the first events held this year through the growing partnership between the Lodi organizations.

"The Lodi Boys and Girls Club donates the space to us [for the dance], which is so thoughtful of them," Regan said. "... Lodi recreation has wanted to something more for the special-needs community as well so that's why we're sponsoring this event."

The free dance on Friday will include pizza, music and dancing, but mostly a chance to socialize, Regan said.

"It's an opportunity for them to be with their friends outside the structured school or program environment," she told Daily Voice. "It's a little more relaxed atmosphere."

The dance also gives parents and family members a chance to have a night out on their own, she said.

The Felician 21 and Over Program offers job training, independent living skills and other lessons for local special-needs adults.

The program was previously located on Felician's campus but recently relocated to the Boys and Girls Club.
